Turning a script that we have written into a real production was a very good experience and I enjoyed every moment. At times it was hard as we had to change many of things to adapt to location and budget, but I feel overall it was very successful and I'd like to have the opportunity to do it again.
Our group used Jonny's camera which was slightly different to the ones we use in college. Getting to learn how to use the camera and all the tricks to it was a very fun experience albeit tricky at times. The exposure in some of shots, mostly during the bedroom scene, was very off and meaning we had to add effects causing graininess.
Finished Product
There were moments in our piece where the mise-en-scene was off and a script was visible. Apart from that, I think the mise-en-scene was good. We were able to film in a house which made the whole thing come together. We were also able to require a real Ouija Board and the correct looking doll which added to the horror ambiance.
In some shots I wish we had used different camera angles, this mostly during my section. As I was too concentrated on the acting as well as the lighting, I didn't get all the camera angles I wanted.
The sound was one of the best moments from our piece as when added it created suspense and a horror aspect to it. Especially at the end where the sound was raised to make everyone jump.
Conclusion
All together, I think the piece was successful, apart from a few moments, but this could be change in any re-shooting. I think that the end of the piece went well because of the creepiness.
I think time arrangement and organisation where aspect that didn't go too well and I wish we would have managed them better. This way we could have required more shots and possibly make the piece better.
I have learnt how to turn a script into a real production as well as asking for opinions from other group
members on shots. This could help create a better look and see what works better.
Next time, I would like to manage time better as well as communicate a little better with the group.
Feedback
Many Enjoyed the ending and how it made them jump. They said it had a creepy pace at the end. One or two mentioned that they didn't understand why Mikey had on shoes if he was sleeping before. some people said that the sounds used worked well with the whole creepy/horror aspect of the piece.
Someone said another angle is needed on the Ouija board to show it moving and the characters watching it move. To us, this seemed hard as the magnets which moved the Ouija Board pointer didn't work through the table.
Shauna,
ReplyDeleteWell done for being part of such a good group and for making it a good group. The video shows off new skills and knowledge and is at least a merit. Sean and I are moderating and basing marks on individual contributions.
